'Americanah' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Review!)

Hey readers! I'm back with a book review this time. Expect another review on Saturday! I have a posting schedule now, Tuesdays and Saturdays!!!!! So anticipate. Okay, let's get into this review!!!!

Americanah is a wonderful story. I loved every single moment of it. Chimamanda has a special flair in her writing and it surely appeared in this one. Hmm... where do I start? Okay, let's talk about the plot itself.

This story was a love story, to say the least. Yes, it did address underlying issues within Nigeria, America, and even Britain; but it was a love story. It was a romance between Obinna and Ifemelu. Yes, that's exactly what it was. If you like love stories definitely read this one, because that is the meat in this soup of a story. Dang, I'm really trying to not spoil it for you, but that might happen. I'm sorry, I hope you can forgive me.

Anyways, this story starts in Lagos, Nigeria. The time period wasn't mentioned exactly but judging from the fact that it was post-civil war, I'm gonna have to assume it took place from the 1980s to the early 2000s. I might be wrong though. Anyways, Obinna's a new kid at school who has so much knowledge and is pretty popular. Everyone thought he would end up with Ginika (the mixed girl who went to their school who thought people thought she was pretty just because of her skin), but he ended up with Ifemelu. They made a raging couple, but then came college. Oh, you thought that they would separate😂. No silly, she followed him to Nsukka university because he had to go there to be with his mom. His mom was a teacher there by the way. Oh, I forgot to mention, although Ifemelu was very popular and in the know, her family was having money issues. Obinna's mom was well off. That was until they decided that university lecturers didn't deserve salaries. Yes in this book there are various mentions of university strikes and the lack of salaries paid. Oh dear, I didn't even mention Aunty Uju. Well, she's not really Ifemelu's aunty, but her dad's cousin. So yes, we can say aunty. I'll let you read the book to find out some more about her😉. Anyways, Ifemelu recites her issues to Aunty Uju, and then there becomes the prospect of moving to America. Once Obinna and Ifemelu both decide that their relationship would be fine with her moving to America, plans set in place. Obinna's mom makes sure that they do in fact have a plan. From there, the story of the Americanah sets in place. Will Obinna and Ifemelu last? Will something bad happen? Will Ifemelu ever come back?

Read the book to answer all those questions yourself😁.

I, for one, will have to admit that this is one of the best books I have ever read. I would honestly call it my favorite book. It mixed in racial issues, political issues, and moral issues with romance. It's perfect! You don't even have to like romance novels to read this book. You just have to like a good story. Now this... is a GOOD STORY!!! Have fun reading! Remember to stay smart, sassy, and woke! (I think I'll use that as my new outro😜.)
