'Americanah' by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie (Review!)

Image
Hey readers! I'm back with a book review this time. Expect another review on Saturday! I have a posting schedule now, Tuesdays and Saturdays!!!!! So anticipate. Okay, let's get into this review!!!! Americanah is a wonderful story. I loved every single moment of it. Chimamanda has a special flair in her writing and it surely appeared in this one. Hmm... where do I start? Okay, let's talk about the plot itself. This story was a love story, to say the least. Yes, it did address underlying issues within Nigeria, America, and even Britain; but it was a love story. It was a romance between Obinna and Ifemelu. Yes, that's exactly what it was. If you like love stories definitely read this one, because that is the meat in this soup of a story. Dang, I'm really trying to not spoil it for you, but that might happen. I'm sorry, I hope you can forgive me. Anyways, this story starts in Lagos, Nigeria. The time period wasn't mentioned exactly but judging from the ...

Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe

Image
P.S. This is definitely not the original cover so don't come for meeeee!!! I recently just finished this book and it's amazing. Honestly, I loved reading this book so much and I don't understand why I hadn't read it a long time ago. I even have some history on the book. It was written in 1958  Chinua Achebe and has won various awards. This is a great piece of Nigerian Literature. I hope everyone gets to read it. It's a tale of when old traditions meet the new. How you receive them or reject them, how you let others respond to them, and what you do to yourself. I don't know if I'm making sense but you need to read it to truly get it. You need to really enter the mind of the author to understand the meaning of this story you know. Okay, let me give the general overview of the book. So it was set in the mid-1900s, when the British first came to Nigeria to actually spread their religion and not for the other things they were doing before that. This boo...

The Thing Around Your Neck by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Image
It's another classic by the one and only Chimamanda. Now this book is amazing. It's not just one story, it's a book of stories. Literally...I'm not kidding, an actual book full of stories. Each chapter is another story from a whole different point of view. You learn so much about different types of people from different backgrounds. This is a must read for sure. You can't just skip over this book, you have to read each and every word because you can't catch up in the next chapter, it's page by page and word by word. That's what makes it even more amazing to read. I would try to give you an overview/summary of the book but honestly, I don't think I can. It's what I said, a story of stories. There is nothing connecting these stories, they don't tie in together, they're just there. They're there for us to read and enjoy, learning new things the whole time. It's more than a book, it's an actual experience. From aspiring to...

Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Another classic by the fabulous Chimamanda. As you can probably tell, I love her so much. She's a good influence to people everywhere. Okay now about the boooook!!!!!!!!!!! (We'll definitely talk about her again though👌). Now I could write a whole book about this book, which would be turned into a movie. That’s how amazing this book is. It has class and it gives you new opinions. When I read this I was in absolute awe. I would love to give you a deep analyzation of this book. So why shouldn’t? Let me stop rambling and get started on this. Purple Hibiscus is a storyyyyyyyy!!! Like honestly you guys need to read this book, you would love it just as much as I did. It was full of climaxes like at every single point. Just going up and down and up and down. Most times it was just peaking, like a heartbeat machine where the heart rate is just peaking and doesn't go down. Then towards the end, the biggest climax happens and you know what I may have hinted at it but you sh...

The Concubine by Elechi Amadi

Okay so I just finished reading this book recently and you guys really don't know. Honestly, you guys need to read this book. It's just way too good. Alright, let me start talking about the book.  This story literally changes from a day in the village to spiritual encounters. It gives you a scenario that might happen, but at the same time probably not happen at all. The book takes us into a whole new genre. We've heard of realistic fiction, but have you heard of realistic fantasy. Yeah.. me neither, but those are the vibes that this book gives me. Although looking at the Igbo culture from all the books I have read about it and looking at the traditionalist culture. All of this could have happened. All these things are real but you just have to fight against them you know. Lol you guys probably think I'm on some Harry Potter ish right now but know I'm not talking about dragons, fairies, giants and all of that. I'm talking about... well you'll just h...

Half of the Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

PSA: Lol, this might not be the best review because I took 3 days to make a review and it got deleted. I'm high-key mad right now, but it's fine let's make it work :) This is my copy of the book and it's probably not the original copy so don't come for me This book is such an amazing piece of literature because it's considered a classic. I enjoyed reading a book that has been highly spoken about and written by an honorary author. This was a story depicting out the experiences of the people who went through the Biafran War. Now only was this an amazing realistic fiction story, but it was also an awesome historical account. It made me feel something and understand what the people went through. Let me take you through this story piece by piece. Look if you haven't read this book then you have literally not read anythinggggg. You just have to read it to understand. While I was reading this book I just couldn't put it down. I read it late into the ...
