When They See Us (Review)

Hey readers! This here is another review that provides education about the Black Lives Matter movement. Enjoy reading!!!!!

When They See Us was pretty scary for me to watch. The fact that this could happen to me or my friend terrified me. All because of the difference in skin colours. I'm not going to lie, I watched this last year and not recently. I couldn't watch it again. I remember balling my eyes out because of what happened to these 5 children. These 5 children were Korey Wise, Antron McCray, Raymond Santana, Yusef Salaam, and Kevin Richardson. Let me explain.

The Central Park 5 were accused of the sexual abuse of a white woman. Yes, this woman was sexually abused, beaten and almost killed and of course, justice needed to be served. She didn't lie about that, she didn't lie about anything in fact. Let's look into the system now. This crime was reported to the NYPD and lo' and behold a band of children that were found in the park were rounded up and interrogated. Oh and yes, they were mostly black (all but I don't want to quote the wrong thing). Let's go back for a while. Now when this case was reported, obviously it had to be given to a department. The candidates for this crime were the Homicide Department or Sex Crimes Department. The homicide department was going to take it but Linda Farstein really wanted a raise or something like that. By fire by force, she just had to have the case and win it. I don't even know if she was finding justice for the woman more than she was trying to justify how good she was at law. (Not that good if you ask me because she got the wrong people.) Alright, back to where we were at the interrogation. Lol, if I tell you that none of the Central Park 5 were present at that thing, you won't believe me. My dears, believe me, because it's very true. They were located because their names were dropped. No, their friends did not accuse them, they just mentioned who they were there with. I'm guessing you can guess what happened next. Injustice, cruelty and violation of rights. Literally, all of them were 14-15 years old, except for one. This one was Korey Wise. If I tell you that they didn't even call Korey to be interrogated you won't believe me. Better believe me because it's true. He was just making sure his friend Yusef was okay and safe. Then he fell asleep, and he was used as the last piece of the puzzle. Unfortunately, he was 16 years old. This little boy went to Riker's Island. (Go back to 2 blog posts ago about Kalief Browder to know a little bit more about that place).

These boys were broken and their lives were ruined because of silly mistakes in investigations and pure greed. Let's not even start with the racism. Glory be to God that the real person owned up to it and they can live somewhat normal lives now. They'll have those memories but they did make something of themselves. I', proud of them and happy for them.

I would like to give a big acknowledgement to Jharrel Jerome that played Korey Wise in this docu-series. He did such a good job! He made me cry for 40 minutes straight.

I advise you to watch it to learn about the reason people fear for their lives every day. We can't live normal lives just because of our skin😞. I hope you enjoyed this review and are planning to educate yourselves a bit more on this topic. God bless you! Remember to stay smart, wise and woke!!!!
